Hubs, Hobs and a Homemade Press

No more searching. No more maybes. No more experiments.

Thanks to the The Ganoskin Project, I have perfect instructions on how to do the make of the "Log" chains.

These are Jewelry Press Forming Dies. I think they are called the Hub and the Hob (although Hob and Hub may just be two words meaning the same thing). I believe the Hub is on the right  the Hob on the left.

And this is a summary of the steps.

Step 1 - make the Model. The Model is the 3-dimensional original of what you want the metal element to look like. You can make it out of all sorts of stuff. When doing lost wax casting, jewelers make it out of wax. I will probably still make this out of polymer clay.

Step 2 - make the Hob mold by pouring Expoy-metal around the model. See the Ganoskin site for exact instructions.

Step 3 - Make a Hub mold by pouring Epoxy-metal into the Hob. Again, see the Ganoskin site for exact instructions.

Step 4 - Press sheet metal between the Hub and the Hob in a Homemade Press like this:
